'Billboard Chris' wins landmark free speech case

Billboard chris 4 2

Campaigner Chris 'Billboard' Elston has secured a major free speech victory as a court in Australia overturned a previous government order that aimed to censor one of his posts on social media platform X.

Billboard Chris is a dad from Canada who has a large international profile from travelling the world wearing a sandwich board stating various truths, like 'Children cannot consent to puberty blockers'.

In March 2024, Australian authorities ordered X to take down one of his posts where he'd shared a news article criticising the appointment of a gender activist to a World Health Organisation panel of experts.

Just this week, following various court hearings, the Administrative Review Tribunal ruled in Chris' favour striking down a government order that sought to censor his post on X under the country's Online Safety Act.

Commenting on the victory, Robert Clarke, Director of Advocacy for ADF International said:

In a free society, ideas should be challenged with ideas, not met with state censorship. We’re proud to stand with Billboard Chris – and others around the world punished for expressing their peaceful views – in defending the right to live and speak the truth.
