10,000 gather in London for March for Life 2026

Thousands of people gathered in central London on Saturday 5 September as part of March for Life 2026.

The theme was 'Abortion Hurts the Family' and supporters marched to Westminster to raise awareness about the devastating consequences abortion has had across the UK.

Abortion was first legalised for most of the UK in 1967. Since then, an estimated 10 million lives have been lost due to abortion.

Under the current law, abortion is permitted for most reasons up to 24 weeks. If the child has a disability, abortion is allowed up to birth.

In 2025, MPs at Westminster approved a radical change to abortion law by removing any criminal sanction from a woman who administers her own abortion at home, right up to birth.

The size of March for Life has been increasing year-on-year and this has led to opposition.

The media gave significant attention to counter-protestors by abortion supporters. Some members of a transgender, pro-abortion group even broke into Westminster Cathedral to disrupt the morning Mass.

Communications Officer for March for Life, Sara Spencer, told the Catholic Herald that the contrast between the two groups was striking:

"While the March for Life was filled with song and conversation, the counter protest was a never-ending din of horns, whistles, sirens, and shouts,” she said. The counter-protestors’ aim seemed to be “to disrupt and disturb” whilst the March for Life filled the streets with “singing, laughter, prayers, and warmth."
