Please take a stand for Christian free speech

Today, CARE has published its guide to help supporters respond to the Government’s consultation on extremism in England and Wales. The Government have appointed the Commission for Countering Extremism to lead the review and are seeking the views of the public on their experience and insights into extremism as well as any evidence of extremism they may have encountered.

We have considerable concerns about the approach the Government is taking and the potentially detrimental impact on the freedom of Christians to express their beliefs.

The Government’s definition of extremism is very broad and goes well beyond violent extremism. It includes non-violent content which some may simply find objectionable – as Lady Howe said in a Lords debate in December “one person’s extremism is another person’s common sense”.

It is crucial that as many Christians as possible respond to this consultation expressing concerns about the free speech implications of the Government’s proposals.

Our new supporter guide will help you to respond to the consultation, which closes on 31 January.

Please note that you don’t need to answer all questions and if you are in a rush you can make the key point by just answering question 2.
