CARE Beyond Belief Report Launch 7

Wednesday (30 November) saw the launch of a major new report on religious liberty in the UK that CARE has developed with the Think Tank Respublica in Parliament.

The event, which was hosted by Fiona Bruce MP and chaired by John Bingham of the Daily Telegraph, was packed with every seat taken and many standing.

Nola Leach, CARE’s Chief Executive, gave a powerful address that can be accessed here (link available shortly).

Others who spoke included report author Dr James Orr, Phillip Blond, the Director of Respublica, Fiona Bruce MP and the former Lord Chancellor, Lord Mackay of Clashfern.

The report documents the many legal cases that have in the last 15 years of so seen the marginalisation of Christians and Christianity, from the shutting down of Catholic adoption agencies to the recent Ashers judgment against a Christian baker who refused to produce a cake with a message supporting same sex marriage, and the cost to society of allowing this process to continue unchecked.

It sets out a series of public policy solutions, at the heart of which is the provision of greater space for the manifestation of religious belief through the principle of ‘reasonable accommodation.’

The report generated widespread press coverage including in the Telegraph, the Daily Mail, the Belfast Telegraph, Christian Today etc.
