This week the Northern Ireland Gambling Prevalence Survey came out which identified that Northern Ireland had more than four times as many problem gamblers as England.
CARE is particularly concerned about the growth and addictive nature of online gambling and would like the UK adopt a one-stop exclusion tool for problem gamblers, meaning those who struggle with addiction would not have to contact each individual website; this would be a much needed reform that would go a long way in helping those who struggle with gambling.
You can read Mark Baillie, CARE's Northern Ireland Policy officer, views on why this one-stop exclusion tool would be hugely beneficial for problem gamblers in the following news outlets:
- The Belfast Telegraph - Northern Ireland has highest rate of problem gamblers in UK
- Derry Now - Over two thirds of respondents to NI gambling survey say they have gambled in the last year
- Premier Radio - Northern Ireland Gambling Statistics Highest in the UK
