This week at the Northern Ireland Assembly, a new All Party Group on Modern Slavery was officially launched, with CARE providing the secretariat.

Joanne Bunting MLA is the new chair of the group and it's focus will be on working with other organisations and charities to reduce modern slavery in Northern Ireland and providing effective support for victims.

Northern Ireland has led the way when it comes to addressing modern slavery and was the first of the home nations to introduce tough new anti-trafficking laws in early 2015.

MLAs recently marked anti-slavery day by passing a motion which included support for Lord McColl's Modern Slavery (Victim Support) Bill.

That legislation is waiting for further debate time to be allocated to it in the House of Lords and CARE continues to campaign for it to become law.

There are now two All Party Groups at Stormont that CARE is privileged to support, the other one being the APG of Reducing Harms Associated with Gambling.
