Members of the National Assembly of France voted for a number of radical amendments allowing abortion for mum’s suffering ‘psycho-social distress’.

In effect, this will allow for abortion for any reason.

The Assembly also voted for state-funded artificial procreation for lesbian couples, genetically modified embryos and chimeras (animal/human hybrids).

Assembly members took part in late night votes on revising the country’s bioethics law.

Tugdual Derville, speaking for the pro-life association “Alliance Vita,” commented on Twitter:

“Those who know that it has NEVER been possible to verify distress, that was the former motive for voluntary abortion, will understand where the trap lies.”

Around 220,000 legal abortions happen every year in France.

The revised bioethics law will be returned to the Senate for its second reading and a modified law would then be voted on by a joint committee of the two houses.

If a consensus cannot be reached, the National Assembly’s decision will be final.
